After pursuing at least one big-screen film (Much Ado About Nothing), Kate moved her studies to Paris and finally left school to concentrate on acting in 1994, after three years of study. She chased her career from television to the stage and back to the silver screen, appearing in several films including Cold Comfort Farm in 1995, Shooting Fish in 1998, and The Last Days of Disco that same year. By 1999 she was ready to hit the American scene, and did not let the flop Brokedown Palace keep her from success. Kate bounced back, scoring a role in Pearl Harbor, the highest grossing film of 2001, when Charlize Theron pulled out of the role to do Sweet November.

In 2003, around the time of the release of Underworld, Kate split with her long-time beau, Welsh actor Michael Sheen, with whom she has a daughter (Lily Mo Sheen, born January 31st, 1999). Shortly after the split, Kate became engaged to the director of Underworld, Len Wiseman. The two were married on May 9th, 2004 in Bel-Air, California, with daughter Lily receiving a "wedding ring" from Wiseman as a part of the ceremony.

Despite her hot Hollywood roles, Kate is a family woman, both down to earth and outspoken. She spends a good deal of time with her daughter, Lily, and, apparently, still speaks Russian with the waxer at the salon. It seems that the most beautiful woman in England is just as down-home as the girl next door.
